AHA Marksmanship Handbook

Before you attempt your shooting qualification, download and read this handbook. It covers the practical shooting principles that will help you meet the AHA standard. Take it with you to the range.

What's inside:

β†’ The Five Fundamentals β€” Aiming, Breath Control, Hold, Trigger, Follow Through

β†’ Firing Positions β€” Prone, Sitting, Kneeling, Standing

β†’ The B.R.A.S.S. Method β€” your shot sequence for every round

β†’ Field Marksmanship β€” zeroing, shot placement, wind, rests

β†’ Shotgun Techniques β€” swing-through and sustained lead

β†’ The AHA Standard β€” 5 shots grouped within 75mm at 100m

πŸ“„ Download Handbook (PDF)
Your shooting standard: A target showing 5 bullet holes grouped within 75mm (about the size of a tennis ball) at 100 metres. You don't need a formal range β€” anywhere you have safe, lawful access to discharge a firearm is fine. A target you shot up to 2 years ago is acceptable. Once you've completed your shoot, come back here and upload your results.
Shooting Proficiency Qualification

Show us you can group 5 shots within 75mm at 100 metres. Two pathways — both count the same.

Option 1 — Physical Target

Shoot a 5-round group at 100m anywhere you have safe, lawful access — a range, your own property, a farm, a hunting station. Photograph the target and upload it.

Option 2 — Virtual-Shot Mount

Buy the Virtual-Shot mount online, download the app, run the simulation from home, and upload your results.

About you

Write in plain English. Where you're based, how long you've been doing this, what kind of country you're comfortable in.

Species capability

Select the species you can target. Calibre bands are set by AHA.

I understand that tags or permits may be required for kangaroos and emus depending on the region and jurisdiction. I will verify the regulatory requirements with the landholder before any engagement involving these species.

I've been doing pest management work in the central wheatbelt for about five years, mostly foxes and rabbits with some pig work in scrub country further east.
